Apple veteran Stan Ng retires after 31 years, marketing force behind iPod, AirPods and Watch exits

HIGHLIGHTS

Played a major role in marketing products like iPod, Apple Watch and AirPods

His departure adds to recent exits including Jeff Williams and John Giannandrea

Responsibilities likely to shift to Erik Treski as Apple continues leadership reshuffle

Apple is now witnessing yet another high-profile leadership exit as the longtime executive Stan Ng has announced his retirement after more than three decades with the company. For the unversed, he played a key role in making Apple’s marketing strategy for products such as Apple Watch and AirPods. This comes after Ng confirmed his exit via a LinkedIn post.

Ng joined Apple in the mid-1990s as a system engineer and went on to become a key figure in the company’s product marketing efforts. In the past few years, he contributed to the launch and positioning of many big devices, including the original iPod.

“After 31 years at Apple, today marked my final day. I made sure to spend it doing the things that meant the most—watching the sunrise at Apple Park with my original iPod (still running on its first battery), squeezing in one last workout at the gym, taking a final ride around the campus, and even trying the one spot I’d somehow missed all these years—the pizza station at Caffè Macs, which I now regret skipping for so long. It was a joy to work at Apple and I truly loved what I did. A big thank you to everyone I worked with, both inside and outside Apple!” he said in his LinkedIn post.

His exit comes when Apple is already witnessing leadership changes. The company has witnessed the exit of Jeff Williams and Dan Riccio, along with AI chief John Giannandrea.

If you are not aware, marketing leaders within Apple’s structure offer a strategic role that goes beyond advertising, often influencing product direction and user experience. And Ng’s responsibilities included key categories including wearables, health, and smart home products, areas that remain central to Apple’s long-term growth.

After his departure, some of his duties are said to be handled by Erik Treski, who has recently been involved in marketing efforts for Apple’s audio and home product lineup.
