Stable iOS 26 build will launch with iPhone 17 and won’t support iPhone X or older devices.

Apple has officially released the iOS 26 beta 9 for the developers and public testers on Tuesday. Interestingly, this comes a week after the Beta 8 update. While the update does not introduce new features, it focuses on fixing some bugs and has affected recent builds including issues linked to Apple Intelligence, Bluetooth, Camera, CarPlay, Siri, Weather and other core applications.

The update is officially available for the iPhone 11 and newer devices who have enrolled in Apple’s beta programme. However, Apple Intelligence features remain limited to iPhone 16 series along with the iPhone 15 Pro series. If you want to update to the iOS 26 Beta 9, all you need to do is just head to Settings and then General. Now, click on Software Update.

What’s fixed

As per Apple’s release notes, the new firmware addresses a bug that previously caused system updates to consume unnecessary storage space. Siri’s integration with ChatGPT, which occasionally returned outdated responses, has also been fixed.

Additionally, Apple has also fixed Image Playground and Genmoji problems which were reported by the Japanese language users. For the unversed, the modifiers failed to apply and image generation was blocked.

The camera app glitch which kept the mode selector expanded on launch has also been fixed along with the small issues in Kernel, Journaling, Contacts, lock screen, App Intents, and WebKit.

What’s next

As per the reports, this seems to be the final beta version of iOS 26 update. The stable build is now expected to ship with the iPhone 17 lineup, which Apple will roll out at its “Awe Dropping” event on September 9. After that, the update will be gradually rolled out on the last generation iPhones. It must be noted that iPhone X and previous devices won’t get the iOS 26 update.
