Amazon Rolls Out New AI Tools to Help Small Businesses Improve Listings and Grow Online

While India has embraced the use of digital technology in many ways, accessibility for advanced tools in AI is still restricted to students and small businesses. Amazon wants to change that. The company intends to make AI more usable for millions of people across the country by 2030. Amazon announced it would invest $12.7 billion in cloud and AI infrastructure in Indian states like Telangana and Maharashtra. The goal is to support the Indian government in its mission to democratise access to AI and provide an opportunity for the growth of small businesses. This initiative will bring learning in AI and career guidance to four million government school students.

Since 2017, Amazon Web Services has trained more than six million people in cloud computing. Now, the focus is on helping small business owners use AI to make their work easier and more effective. Tools like the updated Seller Assistant will provide personalised guidance, and the Next Generation Seller Central platform will provide dashboards and task management to improve daily operations. AI tools, such as GenAI for Listings, enable sellers to quickly create product descriptions from text, images, or links. Sellers can also design ads and videos with Creative Studio and Video Generator at no additional cost. These are designed to level the playing field for businesses of any size to operate online.

Amazon also intends to reach four million students in government schools by 2030. The programme will include AI lessons, hands-on experiments, career tours, and training for teachers. It is an action-orientated learning programme, equipping students with relevant skills for the future. Students, more so those in rural areas, will learn how to use AI in solving real-life problems.

The e-commerce giant also uses AI to make shopping easier for millions of customers in India. Features like Rufus in the Amazon Shopping app give personalised product recommendations and summarise key information. Lens AI lets users search for products using images, barcodes, or screenshots. An augmented reality tool, ‘View in Your Room’, enables users to see what furniture or home items would look like in their space before buying.
