Aadhaar, the 12-digit unique identity number, serves as proof of both identity and address. It has become an essential document for residents across India. To ensure durability and ease of use, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) now offers Aadhaar in a PVC card format, which is sturdier and wallet-friendly compared to earlier paper-based versions.

Earlier, Aadhaar cards were issued on paper, which often wore out despite lamination. To address this, UIDAI introduced the PVC Aadhaar card, designed to last a lifetime.

The card, made of synthetic plastic, measures 86 mm x 54 mm, the same size as an ATM card, making it easy to carry. It also comes equipped with advanced security features, including holograms, guilloché patterns, and scannable QR codes.

UIDAI recommends that Aadhaar cardholders revalidate their details every ten years. For those wishing to order a PVC version, the process is simple and can be completed online.
