A bit of good news has emerged for the fans of Starcraft, following Activision’s quarterly investor’s conference call. CEO Mike Morhaime confirmed that public beta testing of Starcraft II will commence before the end of February. Without giving too much information away, Morhaime mentioned that the game is poised for release by the middle of this year. Knowing Blizzard, one can only be sure after seeing the game on a store shelf.

Another interesting but of information that emerged from the call is that Activision maybe planning to start their own digital distribution system, using their overhauled Battle.Net. To that effect, Starcraft II will be made available for digital distribution through this system.

Blizzard is currently accepting applications for the Startcraft II beta on the game’s official website.
