Right from the start, PlayStation has been known for releasing quality exclusives for its consoles. Since the PS2 era, Sony has invested heavily in multiple franchises spanning different genres. Later, these exclusives are what put their consoles in the ‘system seller’ category. In the past few years, Sony has taken a different direction: instead of locking these games down on their platform, they have opened them up to more players. Their games were released on PC so that more people can have access to them. But it looks like Sony is pivoting back to their original plan, as reports suggest they are dropping PC releases in favour of console exclusives. Let’s take a look at everything we know so far.

As per the latest report by Bloomberg, Sony is dropping their PC game releases to maintain their console exclusives library. In the past few years, the company has released a bunch of its exclusives on the platform, including the God of War games, the Spider-Man games, the Last of Us franchise, and a whole bunch of other single-player titles.
The report mentions that Sony had plans to release the latest exclusive, ‘Ghost of Yotei’, on the platform, but it was later scrapped. It is pretty interesting learning, given that Sony is going to release two of their exclusive titles, Kojima Productions’ Death Stranding 2 and Bungie’s Marathon, on the platform this month.
Fan takes aside, the actual reason for the cancellation reported by Bloomberg was actually because of video game sales on the PC platform. The report stated that the PlayStation ports didn’t sell particularly well, and as per them, they are likely the reason for the shift. While Sony has not commented on the matter so far, Bloomberg does say that their plans could pivot in the future.
Interestingly, while all this is happening on one side, the PlayStation Asia account on X made a tweet very close to this matter. Sony has announced the release of their ‘DualSense Wireless PC Ready’ controller, which they claim will provide ‘easy setup and epic immersion’ for users. By the looks of it, everything about the controller seems normal, but inside, it is set to include a USB-C cable for easier connection with a PC.
