Rumor: Sony may release PS5 Pro along with base PS5

HIGHLIGHTS

Rumors have emerged that state that the PS5 Pro may launch alongside the base PS5.

Zenji Nishikawa, a Japanese games journalist, made the claim.

The new PS5 Pro could be priced at $100 to $150 more than the base PS5

Even though release of next-gen consoles like the PS5 are still about a year or two away, this hasn’t stopped the rumor mill from speculating about everything from the design to the specs of the new consoles. In the life cycle of the PS4, the PS4 Pro was released a few years after the original console. This time around, there have been rumblings that Sony will release the PS5 Pro along with the base PS5 console. This would be a big surprise as it would be an unexpected move from Sony.

Just last year, Sony president and CEO Kenichiro Yoshida talked about the new Playstation in development and that chief architect Mark Cerny was hard at work on the next gen Playstation console. First reported on Wccftech, Zenji Nishikawa, a Japanese games journalist, claimed that Sony would be releasing the PS5 pro along with the base model. Usually, we’d take these rumors and claims with a pinch of salt, but Nishikawa has been rather accurate in the past so we’ll be waiting for more news on this development.

He also went on to say that the new PS5 Pro will be priced at $100 to $150 more than the base PS5. To be fair, what can we truly expect from the Pro version of the PS5? The base system was already revealed to boast of 8K Tv support, SSD storage, an 8-core AMD chipset based on third generation Ryzen architecture, a GPU based on the Radeon Navi family, ray-tracing capability, an SSD storage system and backwards compatibility with PS4 games and PSVR hardware.

Just recently, it was reported that the developer version of the PS5 was already out. A leaked image also showed off what the developer kit looked like, which was confirmed by a few game developers as well.

We will just have to wait and see what the future holds for the PS5 and PS5 Pro.
