Philips, a subsidiary of TPV Technology, has announced the Evnia 27M2N5500XD in China. It is a 27-inch gaming monitor aimed at competitive players who want the highest possible refresh rates. It runs at 500 Hz in its native 2560 x 1440 resolution, and can switch to 720p to reach 1,000 Hz, making it among the first monitors in the world to hit that figure. On the same stage, the AOC Agon AGP277QK was also showcased with this dual-mode panel, including a 1000Hz refresh rate. This kind of high refresh rate could matter for esports users who value motion clarity and low latency over sharpness, and it puts Philips ahead of the 720 Hz OLED models recently shown by Asus and ViewSonic.

Specifications

The Evnia 27M2N5500XD uses a dual-mode high-contrast IPS panel, similar to the one seen on the AOC Agon AGP277QK. IPS helps maintain stable brightness, and the updated 2,000:1 contrast ratio gives deeper blacks than older IPS generations.

The panel offers a 1 ms grey-to-grey response time, which should reduce ghosting and help the monitor keep up with ultra-high refresh rates. HDR support meets the VESA DisplayHDR 400 baseline, so you get basic tone mapping but no local dimming or high peak brightness.

Philips factory calibrates each unit to a Delta E below 2, which should offer accurate colour reproduction out of the box. The company hasn’t disclosed connectivity options yet, but monitors in this class usually include HDMI 2.1 and DisplayPort for high-bandwidth gaming.

In real-world use, you can expect most players to stick to the 500 Hz 1440p mode for better clarity, switching to 1,000 Hz only for titles where raw speed matters more than detail.

What’s new

The key upgrade is the 1,000 Hz refresh mode at 720p, which is unique in the current market. Philips is also using a new generation IPS panel with higher contrast, which should improve visibility in dark scenes without moving to OLED. The factory colour calibration is another useful addition if you care about colour accuracy.

Still, the 720 Hz OLED monitors could offer better black levels and response times. So, pricing will determine how the Philips monitor fits into the broader competitive gaming segment. If the company prices it aggressively, it could appeal to esports players who want the highest refresh rates available today.

Philips has not confirmed pricing or availability. It has only announced the product in the Chinese market. A wider global rollout is likely, but the brand has not shared timelines.
