WhatsApp to allow “Message Limit Exception” requests for valid use cases.

WhatsApp is reportedly working on new controls to tighten its grip on unwanted messages, including a new feature that limits the number of messages users can send in new chats before receiving a response. According to WaBetaInfo, it was discovered in the most recent WhatsApp beta for Android (version 2.25.31.5) and aims to reduce spam and promote balanced communication across platforms.

The report adds that WhatsApp is testing a system that may impose a monthly limit on the number of messages users and businesses can send to contacts who have not replied. The messages that receive a response will not count toward this limit, allowing the normal two-way communication.

The new system is designed to discourage mass messaging and excessive outreach, specifically from the accounts that repeatedly contact users without engagement. When a sender nears the limit, WhatsApp will display alerts and provide an overview of their monthly activity directly within the app’s settings. However, the restriction will not affect ongoing chats, and users will be able to reply to messages and answer calls freely.

According to a TechCrunch report, WhatsApp, with this update, wants to make interactions more responsible and less intrusive. The company will apply limits equally to both individuals and business accounts.

Along with this, WhatsApp is working on a dedicated form for users and businesses who may need to exceed the default limit. Through this form, users can request a “Message Limit Exception” by explaining their legitimate need, such as business communication, reconnecting with contacts after switching devices, or coordinating large events. The platform will review these requests before granting exceptions.

It must be noted that the company has not disclosed the exact number of messages allowed under this limit and is currently under testing. The feature may roll out to beta testers in the coming weeks and will be followed by a broader release.
