Viber for Windows Phone 8 updated with free VoIP calling with HD audio

Viber for WP8 platform has got a major update that brings free voice callings with HD sound, lock screen notifications among others.

Viber Media has launched an improved version of its Viber app for the Windows Phone 8 platform.

The redesigned app comes with free text and photo messaging, voice calls with HD sound, pinning of conversations to Start via Live Tiles, lock screen notifications, and improvements in the interface as well as performance for WP8.

The Skype-rival allows users to connect in group conversations with up to 40 people. Also, the app directly syncs with users’ address book, making it easier to share pictures and location.

Viber, already available on iPhone, Android, Blackberry, Symbian and Nokia S40 platforms, boasts of 175 million users worldwide. The app was previously available for Windows Phone but didn’t support voice calling. The update makes the WP8 Viber app as good as its iOS and Android counterparts.

On the WP platform, Viber will take on a number of other communication apps such as Skype, WhatsApp, Facebook, Kik, WeChat, Line and Hike.
