Many users on X were confused after a viral post said the platform had removed the option to copy video links. The rumour about the Copy Link feature no longer being available in the platform spread like wildfire, as many believed that a new update was rolled out silently. Additionally, because users were having trouble sharing the videos, this further fuelled the rumours. But when users checked the feature, they realised that nothing was changed. The situation was later revealed to be an April Fools’ Day prank. Despite this, the claim gained millions of views and sparked concern about possible limits on sharing content across the platform in recent online public discussions.
The panic was fuelled by a series of tweets on X that went viral, suggesting that users could no longer copy video links. Some of the tweets even went as far as suggesting that the change was intentional, depending on the type of content. The information spread quickly, with both big and small accounts sharing it.

As a result of that, the users also started sharing their own experiences. Some said that they were unable to copy the link for the videos on X, while others said everything was working fine for them. This created confusion as to whether it was actually broken or if it was just misunderstood.
The context was clear when one of the accounts associated with the viral post admitted to the fact that the post was a part of the April Fool’s Day prank. The intention was to generate more activity and not to emphasise the change in the application. Following this, other users also pointed out the fact that the information was false and advised other users to try the function.

However, the fact remains that there has been no change in the application. The facility to copy the video links remains the same on the mobile and desktop versions of the application. Users can still click on the share icon and select the Copy link option on the application or use the right-click facility on the browser to copy the video URL.
