Amid Perplexity AI grabbing Meta and Apple’s eyeballs for investment, the platform has introduced a new feature to its AI chatbot on WhatsApp that will schedule tasks for users. Taking to Linkedin, Aravind Srinivas, CEO and co-founder of Perplexity, announced that the AI chatbot on WhatsApp can now send periodic news alerts and custom reminders at a frequency set by users. “This is the first time you get to feel a basic assistant on WhatsApp that sends periodic news alerts, custom reminders at a frequency you set—all in simple natural language,” Srinivas wrote.
Here’s how it works and how you can access it.
Srinivas has shared a video of the same where he can be seen asking the bot: “What’s the latest news between Israel and Iran?” and the bot replied with a summary of recent reports. Next, he asked the chatbot to send him an update on this every morning, and it confirmed the task by responding: “I’ve scheduled the following tasks for you: Send daily updates about the latest news between Israel and Iran every morning PDT.”
Notably, the functionality will also let users modify or cancel a scheduled task. It will also help users set reminders for daily activities like taking medicine and drinking water multiple times a day, as well as for important events directly within WhatsApp.
