WhatsApp is reportedly developing a new useful feature for iPhone users that will make it easier to keep track of important conversations. The most recent iOS update (version 25.25.74) adds the ability to set notification reminders on individual messages, a feature that was previously introduced on Android.
The new feature will be available in the message action menu and will allow users to set an alert for any message in a chat or group. Users can set reminders for preset intervals such as two hours, eight hours, or one day, or they can manually select a specific date and time, which is useful for meetings, tasks, or deadlines. Once set, a small bell icon appears in the message bubble to indicate that a reminder is active.
“The user can schedule an alert to review a particular message at a time of their choosing by setting a reminder. Quick and easy follow-up scheduling is made possible by the preset intervals that users can select from, such as two hours, eight hours, or one day. Additionally, users can choose the precise time and date for the reminder using a fully customisable option, which makes it especially helpful for scheduling meetings or deadlines,” said WaBetaInfo report.
Whenever the reminder is triggered, the Meta-owned instant messaging platform will send you a notification with the full message text, media preview, and chat name. Importantly, all reminders are handled on-device, so no one else, including the company, has access to the reminder details, ensuring complete privacy. To keep the chat clutter-free, the reminder is automatically cleared shortly after the notification is delivered.
The update eliminates the need for third-party apps to track follow-ups, allowing users to organise and revisit messages directly from within WhatsApp. The new reminder system is currently available to a select group of iOS users and will be expanded to include more accounts in the coming weeks.
