UIDAI soon rule with photo, QR code Aadhaar card offline verification
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) has revamped the Aadhaar address update system to make it more accessible and user-friendly. The authority now allows Aadhaar cardholders to update their address details directly on the official UIDAI website, free of cost until July 14, 2026. This update is expected to encourage millions of users to embrace online Aadhaar services, reduce reliance on physical centres, and accelerate India’s digital governance goals. However, for other demographic updates like name, date of birth, or biometrics, a physical visit to an Aadhaar Seva Kendra remains mandatory.
Here’s how you can update your Aadhaar address online.
UIDAI typically takes up to 30 days to verify and update the address, depending on the document validation process.
While the address update service remains free online, other demographic and biometric updates, such as fingerprints, iris scans, facial data, or name/date of birth corrections, now incur a nominal fee of Rs 75 to Rs 125. These updates can only be made in person at authorised Aadhaar Seva Kendras.

According to UIDAI, the Aadhaar address update process may take up to 90 days from the date of submission. Users can check the progress by visiting the UIDAI website and selecting “Aadhaar Update Status.” Verification is done via OTP using either the URN or Aadhaar number.
If the update exceeds the 90-day window, users can contact UIDAI’s support via the toll-free number 1947 or by email at help@uidai.gov.in.
