Google on Wednesday announced the expansion of its Virtual Apparel Try On feature to India, bringing a more intelligent and personalised shopping experience to Indian consumers. Powered by artificial intelligence (AI), the feature allows shoppers to visualise how clothing items would look on them before making a purchase decision. Part of Google’s broader Shopping Graph initiative, the tool provides access to billions of apparel listings, making online shopping more interactive and convenient. Initially unveiled at Google I/O in May and rolled out to select users in July, the feature can now be used across Google platforms, including AI Mode, Google Shopping, and product results on Google Images. Indian users can seamlessly ‘try it on’ before buying, enhancing confidence and convenience in online fashion shopping.

The ‘try it on’ feature uses Google’s AI models to process a photo of you and generate a virtual try-on experience. When you upload a photo, the AI model analyses your body shape and simulates how different clothing items will fit. It accounts for how fabrics fold, stretch and drape on various body types. The generated preview appears on your device, allowing you to see how tops, bottoms, dresses, jackets and shoes would look on you without needing to physically try them on.
The ‘try it on’ feature offers a highly interactive and personalised shopping experience by allowing users to virtually test products before making a purchase. This functionality helps customers visualise how clothing, accessories or even makeup items will look on them, reducing uncertainty and increasing confidence in their choices. It also minimises the likelihood of returns, saving time and effort for both shoppers and retailers.

Additionally, the feature enhances customer engagement by making the shopping process more fun and immersive, bridging the gap between online and in-store experiences. Overall, ‘try it on’ combines convenience, accuracy, and enjoyment, making it a valuable tool for modern shoppers.
