While both devices work on a similar concept to cool your room, the size, electricity consumption and price make a big difference between the two. The desert cooler is bigger in size and is thus meant for large rooms and semi-open places. The window cooler, on the other hand, is smaller in size and more suitable for small rooms with less space available. You can use a desert cooler when you want to cool large rooms or halls. The device uses its bigger tank and stronger fan to throw air across a wide area and is a good option for living rooms or open spaces. Whereas a window cooler fits smaller rooms, such as a bedroom or study, as it has a limited cooling reach. Also, note that both of the cooling devices lose their effectiveness once humidity rises, as they depend on evaporation rather than refrigeration.

Since a desert cooler carries a larger motor and pump for bigger tanks and stronger airflow, it draws around 150W to 300W units. A window cooler typically uses less energy, which usually falls between 100W and 200W.
