A notched display with 19:9 aspect ratio

OnePlus Co-founder Carl Pei revealed in March that the OnePlus 6 will sport a display notch. In an interview with The Verge, the phone was teased with an iPhone X-like notch in the middle of the display, indicating a 19:9 aspect ratio panel on the upcoming OnePlus 6. Defending the notch, Pei said, “What you are essentially doing is moving the entire notification bar up, giving users more content on their screen.” The notch on the OnePlus 6 will also be smaller than the iPhone X — the exact measurements for it is 19.616mm x 7.687mm. Thanks to the notch, the OnePlus 6 will have a screen-to-body ratio of 90 perecent.

Can you hide the notch on the OnePlus 6?

The notch on the OnePlus 6, in case you don’t like it, can be hidden via a compatibility mode. This can be set individually for an app and will disguise the notch by blacking its side when the phone is in landscape orientation.

The OnePlus 6 will have a glass-back

OnePlus confirmed the phone will have a glass back in a detailed forum post. There will be five printed layers of Nanotech Coating. CEO and Co-founder Pete Lau wrote, “OnePlus 6’s glass design is centered around creating a ‘sense of value’ and ‘premium hand-feel’. We gave a lot of thought to how users feel when they use the OnePlus 6. The advantages of glass over metal are manifold. Glass communicates a transparent, bright and pure feeling. The way glass transforms under different lighting is a particularly important challenge — The OnePlus design team tested over 70 glass prototypes before selecting the best one.”

there will be a OnePlus 6 x Marvel Avengers Limited Edition smartphone, which will also be launched on May 17 in India, alongside the regular OnePlus 6. OnePlus has released a teaser video giving a brief look at the 19:9 display of the Avengers edition OnePlus 6 x with a “unique” textured back.
