The HP Pavillion tx2000 is a range of mid-ranged laptops and we have one of the new models with us this month. We have seen this range of laptops in one of our previous comparison tests so its interesting to see how things have changed.
The design of the laptop is very modern. All the panels are glossy and so is the 12-inch 1280 x 800 screen. The specs of this laptop are quite high end other than the graphics solution. It still is much superior to most of the entry level laptops. There is a GeForce Go 6150 onboard graphics solution. The processor is a Turion dual core TL-60 2 GHz processor. The touchscreen is probably what will make this laptop sell more than anything else. It works well and the rotating hinge mechanism allows smooth rotating of the screen so it can be folded back into itself to be a tablet PC. The touch screen works well especially with Vista’s features.
With the 3 GB of memory on the laptop, Vista runs flawlessly without any hiccups. Benchmarks clearly show the superiority as well. At 640 x 480, Far Cry was able to run at an average frame rate of 65.72 fps on medium quality. Doom 3 gave 16.7 fps. The Altec Lansing speakers deliver as well but the screen is a little disappointing. Viewing angles aren’t good but the colours are alright. High definition videos of 720p and 1080p resolutions run perfectly fine on it. SiSoft displayed a drive index of 55 MBps on the 233 GB WD hard drive.
The laptop with its older technology gets really hot after a while in the top right region and under the laptop. With the glossy solid build and finish, it traps a lot of heat and it can get annoying to use after a while.
