London-based smartphone maker Nothing has introduced a new voice-focused feature called Essential Voice to change the way users interact with their smartphones. The tool is designed to convert spoken input into a clean and structured text in real time, addressing some common limitations of traditional voice typing. The new feature supports over 100 languages and has built-in capabilities. Here is what it is and how it actually works.
The Essential Voice feature is basically a voice-to-text system, which as per the brand, goes beyond basic transcription. Instead of capturing speech word for word, it improves the spoken input by removing filler words and improving sentence structure. It can also format content into lists or structured notes, making it suitable for messages, emails and quick documentation.

The company has also confirmed that it will bring context awareness, allowing Essential Voice to adapt to where you are writing, like messages, work emails or searches. With this, the brand is planning to introduce a voice-first interface in the upcoming smart products.
The feature can be activated through the keyboard or a dedicated key, allowing users to speak naturally while the system processes and converts speech into polished text instantly. It supports multilingual input with automatic language detection and real-time translation. Additionally, users can create custom voice shortcuts for frequently used phrases. The company says audio is encrypted during processing and not stored after use.
As per the company’s community note, the Essential Voice is available for Nothing Phone (3) and Phone (4a) Pro. It also added that the Nothing Phone (4a) will get it by next month.
