Xiaomi reportedly cancelled the India launch of its 15 Civi in India, hinting at a possible shift in the company’s product strategy amid growing confusion over its premium ambitions. According to a Smartprix report citing internal sources, the Xiaomi 14 Civi successor may not be introduced in the Indian market.

If true, this move may come as a surprise, particularly given Xiaomi’s recent push into the Rs 35,000 and Rs 45,000 price range with premium features such as Leica-branded cameras and flagship-grade processors. The Xiaomi 14 Civi was positioned as a serious contender in that space, but low sales appear to have prompted the company to reconsider. The phone is now available at steep discounts online, raising the possibility that it failed to meet internal expectations, according to the report.

With this, the company may now shift its focus back to the budget segment, a space where it has dominated with its sub-brand, Redmi. The report also stated that a new Redmi phone is underway and may fulfill the gap left by the cancelled mid-range offering, and that Xiaomi will focus on the premiumisation goals, which the company announced earlier.

On the other hand, brands such as OnePlus, Vivo, and Samsung have already expanded their premium offerings in India. Moving away from the mid-premium price tier, the report suggests Xiaomi risks losing relevance among aspirational buyers seeking high-end features without flagship-level pricing.

It’s worth noting that the company has yet to make an official announcement about the Xiaomi 15 Civi launch. However, the decision to put the launch on hold for a nearly launch-ready product raises serious questions about the brand’s strategy, the report added.

If Xiaomi 15 Civi may have launched, it could have offered some great flagship features, including a 6.55-inch 1.5K micro-curved AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate and a peak brightness of 3,200 nits. The device could feature Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset and could be coupled with up to 16GB RAM and 512GB UFS 4.0. It may have shipped with the 6,000mAh battery and 67W fast charging.

Just like its predecessor, the Xiaomi 15 Civi may have offered a Leica-tuned triple camera with a 50MP main sensor, 12MP ultrawide lens, and a 50MP telephoto sensor. It could have offered a 50MP selfie camera.
