Turn your normal SIM into a Micro SIM and back, with the Cut My SIM device

Updated on 08-Jun-2010

Those of you who have the WiFi 3G iPad or the iPhone 4 on your wishlists might have wondered what exactly a Micro SIM is, and will your preferred mobile service provider make them available for you?

Looks like a single-hole punch

Well, you needn’t worry, all a Micro SIM is a normal SIM with the extra plastic chopped off, and a simple but very sharp knife can convert your normal maxi-sized SIM. But in case you were worried you’d screw up somehow, don’t fear. A Dutch company, called CutMySim, has released an eponymous device that will allow you to cut your normal SIM to size with a simple push of a lever. That’s not all, it will also provide a “Back to Normal” adapter to fit your new Micro SIM back into normal SIM phones. On sale at $25, it probably isn’t too appealingly priced, but hey, if you believe size matters, it’s a valuable investment. Maybe you could chop your friends’ SIMs while you are at it. Buy it here. We are also sure that if the Apple products that require a Micro SIM to operate become more prevalent in India, you’d probably be able to get it precisely cut at your friendly neighbourhood phone recharge place.
