This year, the mid-range smartphone segment in India has seen some quite interesting launches, including the Poco F7 and OnePlus Nord 5. Both handsets are strong contenders under Rs 40,000 with an impressive set of hardware. We have tested both smartphones, and while the Poco F7 stands out with its gaming, performance, and battery capabilities, the Nord 5 impressed us with its flagship-grade camera, design and performance.

Both phones boast a 6.83-inch AMOLED panel; however, there are notable differences in screen quality. While the OnePlus Nord 5 offers a refresh rate of up to 144Hz and a peak brightness of 1,800 nits, the Poco F7 5G features 1.5K resolution, a 120Hz refresh rate, and a 3,200 nits peak brightness. Additionally, the latter also has HDR10+ certification and Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection. In terms of design, the Nord 5 weighs lighter at 211 grams with an IP65 rating for dust and splash resistance. Poco F7, however, sports a metal frame, glass back, and triple IP ratings (IP66, IP68, IP69), offering better durability.
As for performance, the Nord 5 is powered by the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, while the Poco F7 5G boasts the newer Snapdragon 8s Gen 4. Both devices pack LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512GB storage. Additionally, the Nord 5 runs on OxygenOS 15 based on Android 15, whereas the Poco F7 5G comes with Android 15-based HyperOS 2.0 custom UI.

On the camera front, both devices ship with a dual rear camera setup comprising a 50MP primary sensor and an 8MP ultrawide sensor. However, the OnePlus Nord 5 uses a Sony LYT-700 sensor with OIS support, while the Poco F7 5G packs a Sony IMX882 sensor. On the front, Nord 5 houses a 50MP Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor, whereas Poco F7 has a 20MP selfie camera.
Battery life and charging support are areas where Poco has an advantage. The smartphone is backed by a 7,550mAh battery, supporting 90W fast charging and 22.5W reverse charging. The Nord 5 packs a 6,800mAh battery with 80W SuperVOOC charging. Additionally, Poco F7 also packs a 3D IceLoop cooling system and AI-based thermal regulation to offer enhanced performance during gaming or heavy multitasking.
In terms of pricing, OnePlus Nord 5 starts at Rs 31,999 for the base 8GB RAM + 128GB storage model and goes up to Rs 37,999 for the 12GB + 512GB variants. The Poco F7 5G, meanwhile, is priced at Rs 31,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant and Rs 33,999 for the 12GB + 512GB model.
