MWC 2014: HTC Desire 816 and Desire 610 mid-range smartphones announced

HTC expands its mid-range Desire smartphone portfolio with the new Desire 816 and 610.

While Samsung grabbed everyone’s attention with its new flagship S5, HTC announced two new mid-range smartphones called the Desire 816 and Desire 610 at the MWC 2014 in Barcelona.

First up is the HTC Desire 816.It measures 156.6 x 78.7 x 7.99 mm and weighs 165g. The smartphone has a 5.5-inch 720p display and is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor with a 1.6GHz quad-core CPU and Adreno 305 GPU. It has 1.5GB of RAM.

The Desire 816 has a 13MP rear camera with f/2.2, BSI sensor, 1080p Full HD video recording capabilities, and a 5MP front camera. The smartphone has 8GB of built-in storage and supports microSD slot for extra space. For connectivity, the Desire 816 supports GSM/GPRS/EDGE and WCDMA/HSPA /4G LTE. Bluetooth 4.0 and Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with Wi-Fi Direct.

The Desire 816 also features HTC’s dual-frontal speakers and HTC BoomSound. It also has HTC BlinkFeed to keep a tab on the latest news and social updates. The smartphone is powered by a 2,600 mAh battery.

The new HTC Desire 816 will be available in China, running HTC Sense 5.5, from March and will be upgraded to the latest version of HTC Sense via an OTA update upon global retail availability in April.

The HTC Desire 610 is a more compact smartphone with 4.7-inch qHD display. Under the hood, a Snapdragon 400 processor with four Kraits running at 1.2 GHz and 1GB of RAM power the smartphone. It has an 8GB of internal memory, which can be expanded up to 64GB via a microSD card.

The Desire 610 has an 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and a 1.3 megapixel front facing unit.
