This year, Apple fans will have a new option to choose from from the iPhone lineup that will drop in September 2025. If rumours are to be believed, the Cupertino-based tech giant is reportedly working on a new iPhone 17 Air that will join the upcoming iPhone 17 line-up. Early rumours suggest that the USP of this new addition is going to be its ultra-thin design. Further, it can even replace the Plus variant, which means that the number of phones will still remain four. With this, Apple is adding to its “Air” lineup which currently includes the MacBook Air and iPad Air series.
The design is the main USP of this iPhone 17 Air. It is expected to feature a 6mm-thick profile, making it Apple’s slimmest device yet. It is even thinner than the 7.8mm iPhone 16. To achieve this, Apple is expected to leverage Touch and Display Driver Integration (TDDI), which combines display and touch layers. This helps reduce the thickness of the OLED panel. The device will reportedly include a 6.6-inch OLED display with 120Hz ProMotion technology.
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to pack a simple camera setup with a 48-megapixel main camera and an additional ultra-wide lens. Digital zoom will be enabled via cropping, while the front camera may see an upgrade to a 24MP TrueDepth camera.
The iPhone 17 Air is expected to be powered by the A19 chipset paired with 8GB of RAM. Rumors also suggest that it can include an in-house Wi-Fi chip.
Reports suggest the iPhone 17 Air could launch for $899 in the U.S., similar to the price of the iPhone 16 Plus in India which is Rs 89,900. However, speculation also hints at a potential premium positioning, with prices exceeding the USD 1,199 mark of the iPhone 16 Pro Max.
With its sleek design and powerful specs, the iPhone 17 Air is poised to be one of 2025’s most anticipated launches.
