For years, Samsung’s Galaxy S series has been the default recommendation for Android buyers, offering a premium design, dependable performance, and an impressive camera setup. However, this year’s Google Pixel line seems to give tough competition to the Galaxy S25 reign. The Pixel 10 series, unveiled on August 20, promises significant on-paper upgrades across the areas, from battery life and camera hardware to charging standards and AI-powered software. The question now is, does the Pixel 10 pack enough to challenge Samsung’s dominance?

One of the most apparent differences can be felt in size and feel. The Galaxy S25 remains one of the most compact and lightest premium Android devices at just 165 grams in weight. Pixel 10, on the other hand, despite having only a slightly larger display at 6.3 inches, weighs a hefty 204 grams. The handset offers a 60-120Hz refresh rate and 1080 x 2424 resolution with Corning Gorilla Glass Victus 2 protection. However, there is one aspect where the Pixel 10 can outshine the Galaxy S25: its peak brightness, which offers 3,000 nits. The latter gives 2,600nits of peak brightness.
Previously, the Google Pixel lineup’s Tensor chipset has received criticism for its inefficient chargers compared to its competitors. This year marks a shift as the Tensor G5 is built on TSMC’s cutting-edge 3nm process, promising better speed and power efficiency than previous generations. Samsung, however, continues to use Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite, a high-performance chip for its Galaxy S25.
Further, both Google and Samsung are pushing hard on AI. While Google focuses on-device generative AI for features like enhanced zoom, clever photo editing, and predictive text, Samsung has the Galaxy AI suite offering translation, productivity, and camera tools. Notably, Galaxy devices support Google’s AI apps too, giving its users access to both sets of features.
Photography remains a key area for both phones. The Pixel 10 introduces a telephoto lens for the first time, offering 5x optical zoom, a notable step up over the Galaxy S25’s 3x zoom. Additionally, Google Pixel 10 ships with a 48-megapixel primary camera, which is accompanied by a 10.8-megapixel telephoto camera with 5x zoom support and a 13-megapixel ultrawide shooter. All back cameras support Super Res Zoom up to 20x and 4K video recording at 60fps. The handset also supports AI-backed imaging tools like Camera Coach. On the front, it has a 10.5-megapixel selfie camera with autofocus support.
On the contrary, the Galaxy S25 has a 50-megapixel main sensor with 2x in-sensor zoom and OIS, a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera and a 10-megapixel telephoto shooter with 3x optical zoom and OIS, at the back. At the front, the handset houses a 12-megapixel sensor for selfies and video chats.
The Pixel 10’s added weight pays off in battery size. Google packs nearly 5,000mAh into its base model, compared to 4,000mAh on the Galaxy S25. However, the former’s real-world performance is yet to be seen.
One of the standout upgrades in the Pixel 10 series is support for the new Qi2 wireless charging standard. This introduces Magnetic Power Profile capabilities similar to Apple’s MagSafe.
The Pixel 10 remains limited to 15W, the same as the old Qi standard. In comparison, Samsung hasn’t yet adopted Qi2, but Galaxy S25 users have its accessory benefits with magnetic cases. In terms of wired charging too, the Pixel 10 supports 30W, which is technically faster than the Galaxy S25’s 25W.

Google Pixel 10 price in India is set at Rs. 79,999 for the single 256GB storage variant. It is offered in Indigo, Frost, Lemongrass, and Obsidian colourways. Samsung Galaxy S25, on the other hand, was launched at Rs 80,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant and Rs 92,999 for the 12GB + 512GB configurations. The phone is available in Icyblue, Silver Shadow, Navy, and Mint shades.
