Beware of the new WhatsApp scam that is tricking users into downloading malware on their devices.

Cybercriminals are targeting WhatsApp users by circulating fake message inviting users to try out the new voice calling feature. The fake message being circulated downloads malware on the mobile devices.

According to reports, the fake link directs users to a website that asks them to take a survey on behalf of WhatsApp. However, the survey prompts users to download apps and software which have dangerous malware. Targeted users are also asked to invite friends to try out the new calling feature.

The new scam comes shortly after WhatsApp briefly tested out voice calling service in India. According to recent reports, the feature has been relaunched, though some users have complained about lags.

A lot of users have been waiting for the voice calling feature on WhatsApp for a very long time. Rival messaging applications such as BBM and Viber have already been offering the feature.

WhatsApp is likely to roll out a full-fledged voice calling feature by this year. Meanwhile, watch out for the fake voice calling invitation.
