Apple is reportedly preparing to enter the foldable smartphone market with its first-ever foldable iPhone, expected to launch by 2026. According to industry reports, Apple’s long-rumoured foldable device is in the final stages of development, with mass production likely to begin in late 2025. While Apple has not officially confirmed the product, leaked details about its design, specifications, and pricing suggest that it will be one of the company’s most expensive iPhones in years.
Here’s everything we know about the Apple iPhone Fold.
The foldable iPhone is said to feature a book-style folding design, similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold lineup. The outer display could measure around 5.5 inches, while the inner screen may expand to approximately 7.8 inches when unfolded, providing an iPad-like experience. When folded, the device is expected to measure 9–9.5 mm thick, and around 4.5–4.8 mm when opened.
Apple is expected to use premium materials to ensure durability, including a titanium alloy frame and stainless steel or liquid-metal components in the hinge. The company is reportedly working on minimising crease visibility on the foldable display.
On the camera front, the foldable iPhone is expected to feature a dual-lens rear setup, along with separate front cameras in both folded and unfolded modes, for a total of four cameras. The device may replace Face ID with a side-mounted Touch ID sensor to optimise internal space.
For connectivity, the device is likely to support Apple’s second-generation C2 modem, with advanced 5G capabilities. The foldable iPhone may also drop the physical SIM slot, incorporating Apple’s eSIM-only approach on recent iPhone models. Sources claim that Apple is redesigning the internal layout by shrinking display driver electronics and improving power efficiency to support the new form factor.
According to supply-chain analysts, Apple is planning to unveil the foldable iPhone alongside the iPhone 18 series in fall 2026. However, unresolved hinge design challenges or production limitations could delay the launch until 2027.
