Apple has been in the headlines for secretly developing its long-rumoured foldable iPhone. The device has become a hot topic in the tech world as rumours about the device, including its design, have recently surfaced online. As per the latest leaks citing an equity research note from JP Morgan, the Apple iPhone Fold will offer an industry-first 24MP under-display front camera.
A MacRumors report suggests that Apple has made big progress in improving light transmittance and image quality for under-display cameras, a challenge that has limited most Android foldables so far. Brands such as Samsung have already experimented with the tech, but their sensors often deliver subpar results, offering soft and hazy selfies due to the display interference.
On the other hand, Apple has appeared to take a different route. The foldable iPhone is said to use a 24MP sensor with six plastic lens elements, more advanced than the 4MP and 8MP sensors found in rival devices. This means that the users may get clearer, more natural-looking selfies without compromising the seamless full-screen experience.
Apple may offer a sleek design and may skip certain features, such as LiDAR and optical image stabilisation. Despite these omissions, the foldable iPhone is expected to pack an impressive quad-camera setup, two 48MP rear lenses, a punch-hole camera on the outer display, and the under-screen 24MP unit on the inner panel.
The foldable iPhone is also tipped to include a side-mounted Touch ID sensor instead of Face ID for biometric authentication. While Apple is yet to confirm any details, reports suggest the device could launch in late 2026, though some analysts believe it might be delayed until 2027 as Apple continues to refine the hinge mechanism and durability.
The Apple iPhone Fold is said to be priced at around USD 1,999 (roughly Rs 1,77,000). However, the exact price range, specifications, design, and other details remain under wraps.
