Apple is pretty late to the AI party. While other competing tech companies are rushing to establish themselves as AI leaders in the market, there has been some silence on Apple’s front. However, the word on the grapevine is that Apple might be going hard with AI with its upcoming devices and updates. A new report reveals that Apple will offer new AI features for its Mac lineup and is currently working on the next-generation M4 chips to bring that to life. Read for more details.

Mark Gurman, from Bloomberg, revealed that Apple is currently working on its next-generation M4 chipsets for the Mac lineup. These new chips could be unveiled by late 2024. These chips will reportedly enhance performance and add AI features to the Macs to help compete with its competitors.

Now, if we keep in mind Apple’s timeline, the California-based tech giant could launch the M4 lineup of chipsets in October this year. Why do I say that? See, last year Apple unveiled the M3, M3 Pro, and M3 Max chips in October. So, if Apple follows this, then we will have new AI M4 chips in a couple of months. According to Gurman, the rollout can span from late 2024 into early 2025. According to him, the entire Mac lineup is slated for an M4 upgrade.

The initial updates can be launched for the iMac, various MacBook Pro models, and the Mac mini. Later, the MacBook Air can also receive the M4 upgrade by the spring of 2025, followed by the Mac Studio and Mac Pro.

It is expected that the M4 chips will come in three main variants: Donan for entry-level devices, Brava for mid-tier devices, and Hidra for top-tier devices like the Mac Pro. They will have a 3-nanometer architecture, which we previously saw in the M3 series.
