Apple just unveiled new iPhones, Apple Watch, and AirPods Pro during the Awe Dropping event last night. And now, all eyes are on the next big thing from Cupertino – the MacBook Pro. Reports of Apple gearing up to bring OLED technology to its MacBook Pro lineup have been circulating for a long time. However, fresh reports suggest that the display could be made by Samsung. Yeah, you read that right. Read on to know more.
According to a Korean publication, The Elec, Samsung will begin manufacturing OLED panels (both 14-inch and 16-inch) for Apple’s upcoming MacBook Pros next year. The report further adds that production of these panels could take place at Samsung’s Gen 8 OLED factory (A6) in Asan, South Korea.
The facility is capable of producing up to 10 million panels annually, though initial allocation for Apple is estimated at 2 to 3 million units, reflecting careful scaling during these models’ debut year.
Moreover, the report also added that Samsung is the only supplier of the display panels for the upcoming MacBook Pros. The laptops are expected to launch in late 2026.

Chatter around the MacBook Pro with an OLED display has been circulating in the supply chain for a long time. Earlier reports had said that Apple was exploring OLED technology as a successor to LCD and mini-LED for its laptops. The company had already adopted OLED panels on its iPhones and Apple Watch, so it felt like only a matter of time before the MacBook lineup followed suit.
Analysts like Ming-Chi Kuo and Ross Young have repeatedly hinted that Apple’s long-term display roadmap pointed squarely toward OLED, citing its superior contrast ratios, thinner profile, and energy efficiency. The only barrier seemed to be scaling up production of large, high-resolution OLED panels that could meet Apple’s exacting standards.
The latest reports finally give those long-standing rumours a concrete timeline. Samsung Display is said to be ramping up its Gen 8 OLED fab precisely to handle Apple’s demand, with MacBook Pro models tipped for a 2026 debut. If this turns out to be true, this would end years of speculation and deliver one of the most anticipated upgrades in MacBook history.
