Earlier today, a tweet by Apple’s Senior Vice President of Marketing had sent social media in a frenzy when he confirmed the arrival of a new MacBook. Various social media platforms saw Apple fans getting excited for the new laptop as it was being rumoured for a long time. The tweet had said that the new MacBook would be “coming soon” and didn’t divulge any other details. However, looks like the definition of “soon” here was sooner than anybody could expect. Apple has just quietly dropped a surprise for all its fans and yes, the new MacBook Pro powered by the M5 chip is now official.
Apple has just dropped a major upgrade for its Pro lineup – the new 14-inch MacBook Pro powered by the M5 chip. The company is calling it the “next big leap in AI for the Mac,” and for good reason. The new M5 silicon brings up to 3.5x faster AI performance and 1.6x faster graphics compared to the previous generation, all while keeping that sleek design intact.
Inside, the M5 chip packs a next-gen GPU with a Neural Accelerator in each core and an even faster CPU. What that means in simple terms: whether you’re launching apps, editing high-res videos, or running AI models locally – everything’s going to feel a lot quicker. Apple says this model isn’t just for professionals anymore and even students, creators, and developers will see a noticeable performance jump.
John Ternus, Apple’s senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, said in a press release, ”M5 marks the next big leap in AI for the Mac and delivers a huge boost in graphics performance, accelerating demanding workflows for everyone from students to creatives, developers to business professionals, and more. With its amazing performance, extraordinary battery life, and unrivaled display, M5 takes the new 14-inch MacBook Pro to another level.‘
Let’s talk about what this new MacBook can actually do. The M5 chip powering the device comes with a 10-core GPU, 16-core Neural Engine, and faster unified memory – all designed to make AI tasks seamless. According to Apple, AI-driven workflows like image generation, text-to-image creation, and local LLM processing will now be much faster on-device.
The new MacBook Pro also runs on macOS Tahoe, which introduces a cleaner design, more customisation options, and deeper integration with Apple Intelligence. You’ll get features like Live Translation in FaceTime and Messages, and smarter automation through Shortcuts.
Coming to battery life, it is another big highlight. Apple promises up to 24 hours on a single charge, which is massive for a Pro laptop. It even supports fast charging, promising to juice up to 50% in just 30 minutes when paired with a 96W or higher USB-C adapter.
On the display side, the laptop comes with a 14-inch Liquid Retina XDR panel, offering up to 1600 nits of peak HDR brightness. The laptop also features a 12MP Center Stage camera, a six-speaker system with Spatial Audio, and a bunch of connectivity options. Apple also says that they have doubled down on sustainability as the new MacBook Pro uses 45% recycled materials and is manufactured with 55% renewable electricity.
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro with M5 is available in Space Black and Silver. Prices in India start at ₹1,69,900, while students can get it for a special education discount.
Pre-orders are live now on apple.com/in, and deliveries will begin October 22. As always, you can also trade in your old Mac for credit toward the new one or add AppleCare+ for extended coverage.
