Breathtaking views, ships sailing on clear waters, gripping story and impressive characters. This would be most gamers’ answer if they were to describe the world of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag, one of the most preferred entries in the franchise. And for years, a remake of this iconic game is heavily talked about. Now, Ubisoft has made the existence of the game official without even saying a word. Yes, you read that right.

In a new blog post that talks about the future of the Assassin’s Creed Franchise and where it is headed, Ubisoft has just confirmed that the Black Flag Remake is indeed happening. The company just dropped the concept art for the game in the middle of the blog post without mentioning any other details. In the concept art, we can see the game’s protagonist, Edward Kenway, standing in his signature pose, at the yard of a ship. In the bottom right, the game’s official title is written and it is – Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced.
Just above the concept art, Ubisoft’s blog post reads, Speculation around Assassin’s Creed is not new, but it’s worth repeating: ‘Nothing is true. Everything is permitted. Well, except in this case, some whispers have a little more wind in their sails. Keep your spyglass on the horizon.’
This isn’t the first time that Ubisoft has mentioned the game. In November last year, during a financial briefing, the company mentioned one unannounced game scheduled to launch before March 31, 2026.
Insider Gaming had then matched that timeline to Black Flag’s remake, even narrowing the release window to the week of March 23, 2026.
The game is expected to bring modernised visuals and gameplay at par with Assassin’s Creed Shadows, along with a stronger RPG identity and even brand-new missions designed specifically for this version. For fans who grew up sailing the Caribbean with Kenway, that promise alone tugs at something nostalgic.
In the blog post, Ubisoft also said that the Assassin’s Creed Shadows is nearing the end of its active development cycle. While the game will continue receiving smaller updates, the studio confirmed that most teams are now focusing on future Assassin’s Creed projects. The company also plans to celebrate Shadows’ first anniversary on March 20 with a livestream on its Twitch channel that will showcase the latest game update and community events.
Moreover, the next major single player entry currently in development is Assassin’s Creed Codename Hexe. Ubisoft says that the project is a “darker and more narrative driven experience” compared to previous entries in the franchise. The game is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal and is led by Jean Guesdon, who recently returned to the franchise as Head of Content and Creative Director for the project.
Ubisoft has not revealed gameplay details or a release window for Hexe yet. However, the studio says the project is being built with a long term vision and will take time before it is ready to be shown publicly. For now, the company says it will remain quiet on the game while development continues.
Beyond the next mainline entry, Ubisoft also confirmed that multiple Assassin’s Creed projects are currently in development. One of them is Codename Invictus, a PvP multiplayer Assassin’s Creed experience.
The company also confirmed that Assassin’s Creed Jade remains in development and that the studio is exploring the possibility of bringing cooperative gameplay back to the series in the future.
