PS5 update with DualSense controller sound improvements, Share Screen interactions & more rolling out globally
Sony has announced a price increase for the PlayStation 5 aka PS5 console in select markets, including Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA), Australia, and New Zealand. Taking to a blog, the company cited a difficult economic environment marked by high inflation and constantly fluctuating exchange rates. The company also stated that the updated prices will take effect on Monday (April 14). This price increase comes just after the United States imposed new tariffs on imports under Donald Trump’s leadership.
Europe:
PS5 Digital Edition – €499.99 (up from €449.99)
(No change to standard edition)
UK:
PS5 Digital Edition – £429.99 (up from £389.99)
(No change to standard edition)
Australia:
Standard PS5 – AUD $829.95
Digital Edition – AUD $749.95 (up from AUD $649.95)
New Zealand:
Standard PS5 – NZD $949.95
Digital Edition – NZD $859.95
Notably, prices for the PS5 Pro remain unchanged, suggesting that Sony is targeting only the base models for this pricing revision.
Disc Drive Price Reduced
In contrast to the console price hike, Sony has slashed the RRP of the detachable Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive for PS5:
Europe: €79.99
UK: £69.99
Australia: AUD $124.95
New Zealand: NZD $139.95

It’s worth noting that Sony hasn’t announced any changes to PS5 pricing in India and the US. However, new tariffs and other challenges may result in price increases in the coming months, added the reports.
In the meantime, Sony has increased the cost of the PlayStation Plus subscription service in more than 20 nations. After users’ subsequent billing cycle following June 24, the new prices will take effect. Any membership modifications made on or after April 16 will, however, be reflected in the updated rates.
