PS5 update with DualSense controller sound improvements, Share Screen interactions & more rolling out globally
Sony has officially announced a price increase across the entire PlayStation 5 lineup in the United States. This marks the region’s first price increase since the Trump administration imposed trade tariffs earlier this year. According to the company, starting today, the standard and digital editions of the PS5, as well as the PS5 Pro, will cost $50 more. Interestingly, the company has not announced a price increase for the accessories as of yet.
Following the changes, the disc edition PS5 will cost $549.99 (up from $499.99), while the digital edition will cost $499.99 (up from $449.99). The higher-end PlayStation 5 Pro is now priced at $749.99, up from $699.99. Sony stated that this was a difficult decision to make in light of the challenging economic environment.
It should be noted that the price increase is currently limited to the United States market. Sony had previously announced price increases for the PlayStation 5 in several regions, including the United Kingdom, Europe, the Middle East, Australia, and New Zealand. There is currently no official word on price hikes in India. However, given supply chain difficulties and tariff uncertainty, Sony may raise PS5 prices in India. It should be noted that Sony has not made any statements about this.
Recently, Microsoft also raised Xbox hardware prices in May, citing the same market conditions. Nintendo also increased the Switch console prices, excluding the newly released Switch 2. But even after the high prices, Sony has recorded 18.5 million PlayStation units shipped in FY 2024, ending March 2025.
On the other hand, the reports claim that industry analysts warn that delays in titles like GTA 6 may bring the growing trajectory down.
