Sony launched the PlayStation 5 over five years ago, and the console continues to sell at a steady pace even today. With more than 80 million units shipped worldwide, the current generation is far from slowing down. Sony also introduced the PS5 Pro in November 2024, though it is yet to make its way to the Indian market. At the same time, attention is gradually turning to what comes next. Even without an official announcement, leaks and rumours around the PlayStation 6 keep surfacing from time to time. And according to the latest round of rumours, the PS6 might come with a mammoth 30GB of RAM. Read on to know more.

According to a Reddit post shared by KeplerL2, the PlayStation 6 could feature around 30GB of high speed GDDR7 memory. To achieve this, Sony is said to be using 3GB GDDR7 memory modules arranged in a clamshell configuration. This would result in a 160-bit memory bus, which is narrower than the 256-bit bus used on current PlayStation consoles. Despite this, the faster GDDR7 memory, reportedly running at speeds of up to 32Gbps per chip, could still deliver around 640GB/s of total bandwidth. That would put it roughly 11 percent ahead of the PS5 Pro in terms of memory bandwidth. While this is an unusual setup, the 160-bit interface would align with ten 16-bit memory channels, making the design workable from a hardware perspective.
This would also be a huge step up from the 16GB RAM found in the PS5 and would give developers more room to build larger worlds and use higher quality assets.
Sony is also expected to launch a new PlayStation handheld alongside the PS6. This device is tipped to feature 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, enough to handle modern games without major limitations. If accurate, Sony may once again focus on offering multiple devices at different price points.
The Reddit post that shared all of these leaks has now been deleted and therefore it is wise to take this information with a pinch of salt.
Moreover, reports also say that Sony is reportedly working closely with AMD on the PS6 chipset under a collaboration known as Project Amethyst. The custom chip is expected to use AMD’s upcoming Zen 6 CPU and RDNA 5 GPU architectures. Alongside raw performance gains, the console is also tipped to include new neural processing features. These could be used for AI based upscaling, improved lighting, and more efficient rendering without sharply increasing power usage or cost.
As for launch timing, Sony has not shared any official plans. But multiple reports suggest production could begin in 2027, with a release window in late 2027 or 2028. With the PS5 still selling well, Sony appears in no rush, but the growing number of detailed leaks suggests the next generation is already taking shape behind the scenes.
