Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 revealed, set to take on AMD Radeon flagship

Updated on 25-Oct-2010

[RELATED_ARTICLE]It’s not clear whether Nvidia purposely tried to confirm recent rumours of a GeForce GTX 580 GPU, or inadvertently let it leak on its 3D Vision system requirements page. The timing is certainly spectacular, just when the world is eagerly awaiting the HD 6900 series.

Rumours also let on that the GTX 580 is based on a 40nm chip, the GF110 GPU, which supposedly has 2GB of GDDR5 memory, 512 CUDA cores, and of course, a mammoth power requirement, just like the GF100 and the GTX 480. This is probably going to be poised to take on the AMD flagship HD 6970 – the Antilles GPU, or even the Cayman Pro or XT.
