Since 2017, when the first Horizon game (Horizon Zero Dawn) was launched, fans of story-mode games have shown immense love to the franchise. Aloy, the main character of the Horizon games has lived in our gaming rooms for a long time. Now, what if we tell you that you can be a part of Aloy’s world, but on your phone screen? Yep, you heard that right.
At the G-Star 2025, Horizon fans came across an announcement that has sent the entire community buzzing. Instead of the usual teases and tech demos, NCSOFT walked onto the stage and dropped something nobody saw coming: a brand new global MMORPG set in the Horizon universe, built in collaboration with Sony, and coming to both mobile and PC. Yes, Horizon is officially going cross-platform, and this time it is not a spin-off or a side story. It is a fully fledged online world called Horizon Steel Frontiers, and it already looks massive.
The reveal came with an explosive trailer showcasing the Deadlands, a new region inhabited by machine hunters. The first look blends everything players love about Horizon with the scale of an MMO. Towering mechanical beasts roam open fields, squads of players coordinate their attacks, and the combat brings that familiar mix of precision, timing and tactical movement. NCSOFT is extending the hunting-action DNA of the franchise with deeper customisation, party play and combat systems built specifically for large-scale encounters.
What makes the announcement particularly bold is the platform strategy. Horizon Steel Frontiers will launch on mobile and PC through PURPLE, NCSOFT’s own cross-platform service. This will bring the Horizon world to more players while retaining the visual identity, creature design and storytelling that define the franchise. And judging by the footage shown at G-Star, the teams at NCSOFT and Guerrilla are working hand-in-hand to make sure it feels authentically Horizon, even in an MMO format.
The debut trailer, now live on the official Horizon Steel Frontiers YouTube channel, offers a sweeping look at the environments, machine designs and large-scale battles players will take on. Alongside it is a developer interview featuring Jan-Bart Van Beek, Studio Director and Art Director at Guerrilla, who spoke about the excitement of expanding Horizon beyond traditional console campaigns. He described the project as an opportunity to reimagine the universe with new types of players and new kinds of challenges.
NCSOFT’s leadership also appeared in a ten-minute breakdown video, with CEO and CCO Taekjin Kim and Executive Producer Sunggu Lee explaining how the studios aligned their philosophies to build a world that gives players freedom. Their goal is to offer an MMO that still feels personal, where each hunter can develop a unique combat identity while contributing to larger battles that the Horizon series has never attempted before.
Details are still limited, but NCSOFT confirms that more updates will roll out through the official site in the coming months. Since the trailer has gone live, many fans have mentioned in comments how they would love if the game rolls out on PlayStation as well. Whether or not that happens, time will tell.
