We are almost through with the first month of 2026 and this year promises to be big for gaming. Many AAA titles, including GTA 6, will be launching this year. While the GTA 6 launch is still far away, we will be getting another much-awaited game in the month when GTA 6 was originally supposed to launch. Forza Horizon 6 will be coming to PC, Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S in May. However, PS5 players will have to wait a little longer as an official PS5 launch date has still not been announced. Microsoft recently confirmed that the open-world racer will launch on May 19 for Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC. Players who opt for the Premium Edition will get early access starting May 15. A PlayStation 5 version is also on the way, though it is scheduled to arrive later in the year.
The announcement was made during the latest Xbox Developer Direct showcase, where Playground Games offered a deeper look at what is shaping up to be the most ambitious Forza Horizon entry yet.
The game is set in Japan, a location that fans have been requesting for years. Playground Games has leaned heavily into that appeal, building what it says is the largest map ever created for a Horizon game. The world promises to blend dense cityscapes with sweeping countryside, taking players from neon-lit urban streets to winding mountain roads and rural landscapes.
During the showcase, the studio revealed that players begin their journey as a rookie racer and outsider, exploring Japan alongside two companions who help ground the experience. One is a passionate motorsports fan, while the other is a seasoned Japanese car builder who offers a more local perspective as you progress through the game’s events and challenges. Progression once again revolves around earning wristbands and climbing the ranks, gradually opening up more of the map and higher-profile races.
At launch, Forza Horizon 6 will feature more than 550 cars, the largest day-one roster the series has ever seen. This includes modern performance machines, off-road vehicles, and high-profile cover cars like the 2025 GR GT Prototype and the 2025 Toyota Land Cruiser. Playground Games is clearly aiming to cater to both hardcore car enthusiasts and players who simply enjoy experimenting across different driving styles.
One of the standout new features is the Estate, a large plot of land tucked away in the mountains. Instead of being a static hub, the Estate can be built up from scratch, allowing players to place buildings, design roads, and invite friends over to explore. It adds a more personal, creative layer to the Horizon formula, hinting at a stronger social and customisation focus this time around.
The presentation also ended with a brief and mysterious tease involving a towering Gundam, though no further details were shared. For now, Playground Games is keeping some surprises under wraps, but with launch only a few months away, more reveals are likely soon.
