A collaboration between Xbox and ROG

The ROG Xbox Ally and ROG Xbox Ally X have been created by Microsoft’s Xbox and Asus’ ROG. The handhelds take design cues from the Xbox Wireless Controller, featuring contoured grips, impulse triggers, HD haptics, and assignable back buttons. The overall layout aims to offer long-session comfort with precision controls that feel familiar to console players.

Both handhelds are powered by AMD’s new Ryzen Z2 series processors, built specifically for ultra-portable gaming machines. The ROG Xbox Ally X runs on the high-end Ryzen AI Z2 Extreme chip, complete with a dedicated NPU (Neural Processing Unit) for AI-powered performance optimisation. It’s paired with 24GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 1TB PCIe SSD, and a massive 80Wh battery, which should translate to longer gaming sessions compared to the previous-gen Ally.

The standard ROG Xbox Ally uses the Ryzen Z2 A processor and comes with 16GB of LPDDR5X memory, a 512GB SSD, and a 60Wh battery .

Both devices support Radeon’s FSR, RSR, and AFMF technologies for frame generation, resolution upscaling, and smoother graphics. Combined with the 120Hz Full HD IPS display, gamers can expect fluid motion and crisp visuals on a 7-inch screen capable of 500 nits brightness, AMD FreeSync Premium, and Corning Gorilla Glass Victus protection with anti-reflective coating.

Connectivity remains robust too. The Ally X features USB4 and USB 3.2 Gen 2 ports, DisplayPort 2.1 support, WiFi 6E, Bluetooth 5.4, and a UHS-II microSD card reader, giving players plenty of flexibility to plug in peripherals or expand storage.

Despite the powerful hardware, ASUS has focused on ergonomics and portability. The ROG Xbox Ally X weighs 715 grams, while the base model tips the scales at 670 grams.
