Sony has confirmed that it will launch its next-generation true wireless earbuds on February 12. The teaser video on YouTube mentions the time and shows a silhouette of the buds case. While the company has not explicitly named the product, its teaser clearly points to the upcoming Sony WF-1000XM6. The confirmation matters because the WF-1000XM series represents Sony’s flagship in-ear line, competing directly with the Apple AirPods Pro and Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Pro range. The new model is expected to build on the Sony WF-1000XM5, which debuted in 2023 as a smaller, lighter and more refined successor to the XM4.
The video reveals the event will go live on February 12 at 8 am PT or 9:30 pm IST. The 6-second clip says the ‘next generation of earbuds’ is coming soon. The sneak peek shows the microphone grille, which matches the leaked renders of the WF-1000XM6.
Recent images, first highlighted by The Walkman Blog after a Thai retailer, Power Buy, briefly listed the product early, reveal a noticeable redesign. The WF-1000XM6 appears to move away from the circular look of the Sony WF-1000XM5 and instead adopts a pill-shaped form factor. The charging case also looks taller. It has a rounded-rectangular shape with a flatter surface. It could come in black and light grey/white colours.

The retailer listing, which has since been taken down, also revealed key features including IPX4 water resistance, active noise cancellation and ambient sound modes. Notably, the new earbuds appear to feature four microphones per bud, indicated by an additional grille. This suggests Sony may be enhancing both active noise cancellation and transparency performance, areas where it already performs strongly.
The expected price in the US is $329.99, which is close to Rs 30,000. For comparison, the Sony WF-1000XM5 launched in India at Rs 24,990. So if the leak is accurate, the XM6 would represent a price increase over its predecessor.
Sony has built a strong reputation in premium audio, particularly for class-leading ANC and balanced sound tuning. The Sony WF-1000XM5 improved comfort, reduced size and delivered one of the best noise-cancelling experiences in its segment when it launched. The next-generation earbuds could up the game. To justify the premium, Sony may need to go beyond incremental ANC and audio gains. Buyers in this bracket increasingly look for spatial audio support, advanced personalisation, and ecosystem-level features. The WF-1000XM6 will aim to take on Apple’s AirPods Pro lineup and Samsung’s Galaxy Buds 4 Pro model.
The scheduled launch event is just days away and so we can expect to gain more details in the days leading up to this date. Keep reading Digit.in for more such updates.
