Specifications and features

The ScreenBar Halo 2 uses a dual-light system with a new triple-curvature backlight design that increases ambient coverage by 423 percent compared to the previous model. BenQ claims this helps reduce the contrast between the monitor and its surroundings, keeping eye strain in check during long work sessions.

The Halo 2 continues to use the ASYM-Light (asymmetrical) optical tech with an 18-degree cut-off angle so the light hits only the desk surface, not the display or the user’s eyes. This removes glare and prevents stray light from entering the eyes, a problem common with regular desk lamps.

The design is rated to offer a screen-to-environment luminance ratio of 3:1 for comfort, according to the ANSI standard.

The Halo 2 offers brightness control from 0 to 100 percent and colour temperature adjustment from 2700K to 6500K, handled through a redesigned wireless dial with a Lithium-ion battery (3 months life) and USB-C charging option. You can rotate the dial to change the colour temperature of the light, choose which of the lights to turn on, and also lets you access/control smart features like motion detection to turn the light on based on the user’s proximity to the desk, auto-dimming based on room conditions, and ‘My Favourite’ memory settings that restore preferred brightness and colour temperature.

The updates extend to the clamp as well. BenQ is using a zinc-alloy mount that rests on the display instead of clipping to it. This supports thin and curved monitors with up to 6cm thickness, without causing pressure marks.

The wider light coverage, the ability to dim the light even lower than before, motion detection and auto dimming, and the new clamp are all useful upgrades. In our interaction with JC Pan and Rajeev Singh from BenQ, they said the company’s Halo 2 is a premium product focused on quality. But, if you want something more affordable, you can look at BenQ’s ScreenBar Pro or alternatives from brands like Baseus.
