Oppo Find X8 Ultra Hands-On: A Cool Phone We Won’t Get To Buy

Updated on 06-May-2025

Another year and we can’t officially purchase the most premium and camera-heavy Oppo flagship in India. Life sucks if you’re a sucker for camera phones here in India, but what to do? The Oppo Find X8 Ultra was launched in China on April 10, 2025, and like every year, the Ultra model of the Find X series is still China-exclusive. But Oppo still sent it across to Indian tech folks — maybe just to make us jealous? Well, no, the Chinese brand sends the Ultra models to us every year just so they can test whether the Indian market wants this smartphone or not. And like every year, we are amazed. Again!

I got my hands on it and took it to Panikot in Haryana to test its cameras. Honestly, it’s a mixed bag — some serious highs, but also a few “hmm” moments you should know.

Oppo Find X8 Ultra And Its Wild Cameras

Let’s get this straight — on paper, this camera setup is wild. With the Oppo Find X8 Ultra, you get a 1-inch 50MP main sensor, a 50MP ultrawide, and not one but two 50MP telephoto lenses (3x and 6x zoom). This is something that we have seen in other camera-focused smartphones as well.

Daylight shots: The 1-inch main sensor of the Oppo Find X8 Ultra captures crisp shots. These pictures are not only detail-rich but also have quite natural colours. To make its pictures look natural, this smartphone uses an additional 2MP True-Chroma Camera sensor. So basically, there are five cameras on this phone.

Zoom shots: The real ace up this smartphone’s sleeve is its zooming capabilities. In optical zoom, the images appear sharp, vibrant, and the depth is just so good. Even the 120x max zoom looks surprisingly good — text like what’s printed on a Hero Splendor’s tank wasn’t visible to the naked eye, yet this phone captured it well, thanks to AI upscaling. But it’s still a bit of a hit-or-miss beyond 30x.

Low light: Remember there was a time when we used to think, ‘When will our smartphone be able to capture the world as we see it with our eyes?’ After using the Oppo Find X8 Ultra, I think we’ve come far beyond that as well. So, these low-light pictures that I captured — these were taken around 7:30 PM, and the sunset time in Delhi is around 7 PM.

What I’m trying to say is that it was completely dark when I clicked these pictures, yet they appear lit enough. Yes, the colours are not as accurate as they are in daylight shots, nor are the details very sharp. But the way it captures a completely dark scene and makes it visible enough is just amazing.

Videos: The Oppo Find X8 Ultra can shoot videos in 4K Dolby Vision at 120 fps. The video quality of this phone is, again, great. It also comes with a feature called ‘Sound Focus’, which helps the smartphone capture clear audio of a focused subject while reducing background noise. I won’t talk much about its video capabilities, you can have a look at it yourself.

By now, you’ve probably got the picture — the camera on the Find X8 Ultra is nothing short of impressive. But one thing that should actually be appreciated is its OIS. Even on 120x, the camera is stable enough if you have slightly steady hands.

Big, Heavy, But Comfy

While the Oppo Find X8 Ultra measures 8.78mm in thickness and weighs 226 grams, it can be a bummer for some people. If you like to use compact smartphones or if your hands are small, unfortunately, the Find X8 Ultra can feel more like a weapon than a smartphone.

But if you use big smartphones, here’s the twist — it’s actually pretty comfortable in your hand. Yes, the weight is obviously there, but how the weight distribution has been managed is impressive. The huge camera bump on the back does not make the smartphone feel top-heavy.

That said, it’s definitely not a “one-hand-friendly” phone unless you have Shaq-sized hands (sorry but not sorry for my lame basketball jokes).

Top-Tier AMOLED Display

Oppo hasn’t cheaped out on the screen — it’s a top-tier QHD+ AMOLED panel. You’re using a premium device, and you feel that with its display as well. The display is pretty bright, so you really won’t have any struggles while using it under harsh light. The details are spot-on, and the visuals have a lot of clarity and sharpness. The HDR management is also pretty good; the blacks are deep, as they should be.

Fast, fluid, and crazy responsive (only when needed), thanks to the LTPO panel and a 120Hz refresh rate. You expect this level of display quality from any serious flagship now, so nothing revolutionary here — just solid.

Great Tech, But When Will We Get It?

There’s no doubt the Find X8 Ultra is a serious piece of tech flex. It’s built like a tank, takes excellent photos, and feels every bit premium. But when will Oppo launch its Ultra models in India? That’s still a mystery. Even with the Find X8 Ultra, we are not really sure whether it will make it to India or not.

If Oppo ever dares to officially launch this in India at a competitive price, it could shake things up. But right now, it’s just a really cool phone most of us will never get to buy.
