Apple created quite a stir on the internet with its iPhone 17 lineup, which was launched just a few days back during the Awe Dropping event. But what is not many are talking about is last year’s iPhone 16. Yes, even though the iPhone 17 lineup looks all flashy and cool, it comes with a pricier price tag. Even if you wish to go for the vanilla iPhone 17, you will have to shell out over Rs 82,000 from your pocket, and honestly, that’s not something many people would be comfortable with. Then, how do you get the iPhone experience without feeling the FOMO? The answer to that is the last-gen iPhone 16. The phone is going to be available at a solid discounted price during the Flipkart Big Billion Days sale. Let me tell you all about this deal and also why the iPhone 16 is still a very good choice.
The iPhone 16 had already received a price cut following the launch of the iPhone 17 series in India. On Apple’s official website, the vanilla variant is currently available at Rs 69,900. At its launch, however, the same model carried a price tag of Rs 79,900. That’s clearly an Rs 10,000 discount. In addition to that, Flipkart has announced that during its upcoming Big Billion Days Sale, the iPhone 16 will receive a further price cut.
The Big Billion Days Sale page reads that the iPhone 16 will be available for a special price of Rs 51,999. The teaser microsite highlights taglines such as “What you see is what you pay” and “No T&C Applied”, suggesting that the mentioned price is straightforward and does not factor in additional bank-based discounts.
At present, the 128GB base model of the iPhone 16 is listed on Flipkart at Rs 74,900. This means shoppers can save as much as Rs 23,000 during the sale. In addition, customers using Axis Bank or ICICI Bank credit and debit cards can avail themselves of an extra 10% instant discount. Not only is the iPhone 16 on sale, but Flipkart has also announced that the iPhone 14 will drop below the Rs 40,000 mark, while the iPhone 16 Pro Max will be available under Rs 90,000 and the iPhone 16 Pro under Rs 70,000, inclusive of bank offers. So, if you have been wanting to buy an iPhone, this sale seems like the perfect time.
The iPhone 16 carries the A18 chipset, which is still a pretty powerful processor. It will take care of all of your daily tasks, including gaming, and features such as Apple Intelligence. The compact form factor is something that I really loved and enjoyed using. It has a 6.1-inch OLED panel that looks gorgeous and also adds to the entire viewing experience. One compromise, yes, will be that you will have to make do with the 60Hz refresh rate, compared to the 120Hz refresh rate on the iPhone 17, but it still feels slick if you’ve been an iPhone user. The cameras are good, the battery backup is surprisingly reliable, and you can use all the new AI features on it that you are getting with the new iPhone 17. So, if you ask me, I think at Rs 51,999, the iPhone 16 is a pretty solid option.
