Computex 2018 has officially kicked off yesterday and what better way to end the first press event than celebrating the winners of the d&i award. All the products released in the previous year are judged by a panel of six experts. However, in order to qualify, one has to meet high standards of design and innovation in their products. Interested folks participate in the event voluntarily. In 2018, we got to witness 60 products winning awards. Here are some of our favourites.
Alienware 34 Gaming Monitor
The new Alienware 34 Curved Gaming Monitor (AW3418DW) is a 34-inch, curved gaming monitor with the same design language as the rest of the Alienware ecosystem, mainly targeted at PC Gamers and PC Enthusiasts looking for the high performance. The 34-inch, 2560 X 1080 WFHD display works with NVIDIA G-SYNC™ technology, which leads to lower frame load time, minimal distortions, and comparatively smoother and more vibrant images.
Lenovo Mirage Solo
According to Lenovo, the Mirage Solo with Daydream is the world's first standalone VR headset. Featuring WorldSense™ body-tracking technology by Google and a 110-degree FOV, it aims to make viewing the contents made by the Mirage VR camera easy way. It also features a streaming method to make the experience seamless.
ROG STRIX GL12
According to ASUS, the ROG STRIX GL12 draws inspiration from urban ninja and cyberpunk elements, while keeping e-sport in mind. The chiselled edges and deep slashes across the build to match that aesthetic. While the interwoven Hyper Stream design allows for better cooling during gaming marathons. The ninja-mask-like magnetic cover can be removed to reveal the hot-swap SSD tray and optical drive.
The minimal form of the YOGA 730 aims to be one of the simplest, purest laptop designs available. Within its slim display borders, the 730 houses a comparably large screen, which gives users more viewing area without compromising on the 13” size. The light weight makes it suitable for the one-handed tablet mode. When the YOGA 730 folds into tablet mode, the top edge of the screen lines up with the edge of the bottom half.
ThinkPad X1 Tablet
The ThinkPad X1 Tablet Gen 3's design and specifications, including a larger 13-inch display, aims at offering more than the usual business laptop while being thinner, lighter and providing the flexibility of a stand-alone tablet. The kickstand cross hinges are aimed at fluid transitions to multiple modes. A full-pitch ThinkPad keyboard cover is also available.
ORIGAMI OLED TV
ORIGAMI TV is only 3.95 mm thick. The concept behind the design is inspired by origami. It involves folding sheet metal into a TV frame. Along with saving the amount of material used, it also reportedly improves the strength and integration. The lateral edge of the TV itself contributes to a sense of bent paper-like existence. The stand is designed to appear observably and reversely in order to bring a perfect setting out in a stand or wall-mounted modes. In addition, the TV also features 8 front-firing speakers covered with a specific pattern
Kubb is a mini-computer made in France, and it is apparent that its design aims to blend high-tech, lifestyle and the traditional French know-how. With its 12 cm cubic shape, the Kubb also focuses on the technology aspect with a quick start-up, power and performance, silence and low consumption.
