Coolpad Mega 2.5D: In Pictures

After bringing 3GB RAM and fingerprint scanners to the 7K budget smartphone segment, Coolpad has now brought a selfie centric smartphone for the budget buyer. The newly launched Coolpad Mega features an 8MP camera up front with enhanced beautification filters.

Before we begin. Let’s go over the specifications:

Display: 5.5-inch, 720p
SoC: MediaTek MT6735P
Storage: 16GB
Camera: 8MP, 8MP
Battery: 2500mAh
OS: Android 6.0 Marshmallow

The MediaTek 6735P SoC used in this smartphone is slower than the MT6735, which is currently used on the Coolpad Note 3 Lite. It uses the same quad-core Cortex A53 CPU cluster, but it is clocked at 1GHz instead of 1.3GHz.

The 5.5-inch display on the Coolpad Mega has a 1280 x 720p resolution and offers decent viewing angles. It is also a 2.5D curved glass display, to add the premium touch to this budget smartphone. Coolpad has increased the screen to body ratio to over 70 percent making this a good device to watch video content on. Although, in the little time we spent with the phone the display felt a little reflective.

The Coolpad Mega has a very beautiful looking design. The curved display and the metal finish makes it look premium for its price. However, the phone does not have a metal build, but the build quality isn't bad.

There are dual SIM slots on the smartphone and the phone does support 4G LTE. It has dual-SIM standby, and the phone also supports VoLTE in India. What the phone does not have is a dedicated microSD card slot, choosing a hybrid SIM-SD mechanism in its place.

Front facing camera
The key feature of this phone is the front facing camera. It uses an 8MP sensor, which has a f/2.2 aperture and offers a wide field of view of 83.6 degrees. The image quality seems decent for the price, but we would be able to gauge the quality more once we get the device for review.

Rear camera
At the back, the Coolpad Mega uses another 8MP camera, which is aided by a single LED flash and initial impressions suggest, that it is decent for the price.

The phone has a 2500mAh battery making the phone quite light and weighs just 140 grams. However, we believe, considering the large 5.5-inch display, the phone has smaller battery. That said, Coolpad has claimed 9 hours of talk time on a single charge.
