Best Thriller Movies on Netflix

The best thing about thriller movies is that they keep you glued to the screen throughout their run time. While some excel at creating suspense through surprising twists or big reveals in the end, others follow a strong narrative that makes you yearn for more. All these things are precisely why this genre of films has such a big following. If you, too, are a fan of the genre and are looking for some good suggestions, then here are 10 of the best thrillers on Netflix India that you can watch now.

If you’re looking for new suspense movies on Netflix, then you’ve got to check out Ava. Starring Jessica Chastain and Colin Farell, this movie follows the journey of Ava, who is a soldier turned assassin. While killing her victims, Ava develops a habit of asking them what they’ve done wrong. During an attempted assassination, she ends up in a gunfight, and the operation is subsequently botched. Ava now has a hit ordered on her by her bosses, who consider her a significant liability.

1922 is an interesting story about a farmer who decides to kill his wife for financial gain. One of the most exciting scenes of the films revolves around how he convinces his son to participate in the murder. The movie is set in 1922, as the name suggests, and one can consider it a period film of sorts.

Ever imagined Adam Sandler in a movie where he is not being Adam Sandler? Well, here is a gem of a movie (no pun intended) that revolves around a charismatic jeweller who ends up making a bet that could either make his life forever or punch him down to the core of the earth. Sandler does a great job as the lead character that has to deal with his adversaries, family issues and much more through all this, and hopes to come out as a winner. The movie does have a comedic touch to it but it is more of dark comedy. Nonetheless, it is definitely one of the best thriller movies on Netflix from Hollywood in recent times.

Definitely one of the best Hindi thriller movies of all times, Andhadhun takes you through different highs and lows, just like the musical premise it is set upon. It takes you through the life of a blind musician (pianist), played by Ayushman Khurana, and how he gets entangled in a murder case. It’s funny, suspenseful and surely an edge-of-a-seat thriller. One thing is for sure, you will be thoroughly entertained in this movie and will be surprised with the insane twists and turns.

Here is a classic thriller that is one for the ages. Created by the Coen brothers, this neo-western crime thriller takes you through the journey of a hunter who finds $2 million by luck. As a consequence, a psychopath killer is after him to retrieve the money. Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin do a great job with their convincing performances, keeping you hooked throughout. The movie is one of the best Hollywood thriller movies of all time, and this is reflected in the incredible number of awards it received in 2008.

Talash is a Bollywood movie that did a great job at maintaining suspense throughout the movie, mainly due to the slightly slow pace of the story. Director Reema Kagti does a fantastic job at drawing the audience into the movie slowly, and then throwing the answer in your face in the end to blow your mind. Add to that the brilliance of Aamir Khan, Kareena Kapoor Khan and Rani Mukherjee, and you have yourself one of the top Hindi thriller movies out there.

Next in this thriller movies list is the Sandra Bullock-starrer, Bird Box. It is a post-apocalyptic world in which an entity has wiped out most of earth’s population. Over time, it is now known to people that if you see it, you die. A strong woman and her kids embark on a journey to find a safe haven, while this entity takes the form of the things you most fear. It falls under the horror genre as well but one thing is for sure, it is as thrilling as it can get because you really do not know what can happen the next moment.

When it comes to the top suspense films on Netflix, there are very few movies that can beat the suspense, drama and the late reveal that the Bollywood movie Kahaani offers. Sujoy Ghosh creates an intriguing world where a pregnant woman (Vidya Balan) is searching for her husband and must face many challenges along the way. All the clues meet a dead end, only for her to find out that there is much more to his husband’s case than she can fathom. Definitely, a must-watch!

If you love history and suspense thrillers, then you will absolutely love Angels and Demons because it has both these aspects in abundance. An adaptation of the book of the same name, this movie revolves around a symbolist named Robert Langdon and his pursuit to solve the mystery at hand to save Vatican City from being blown up. With ancient symbols, anagrams, puzzles and four altars of science, it is a literal race-against-the-time thriller that keeps you guessing every second.

Director M. Night Shyamalan is back at it with the second instalment in his Unbreakable trilogy. Imagine having 23 different alter-egos and living with all of them in your head. Can you? That is what the protagonist/antagonist, Kevin, in Split has, as he suffers from dissociative identity disorder. He kidnaps three teenagers and talks to them in different avatars. The girls will have to make their escape plan quickly by finding the friendly avatar before he turns into his 24th alter-ego. James McAvoy, as Kevin, shows the world why he is considered such a good actor by critics and his contemporaries alike.
