One of the newer shows on the list, To the Lake is a frightening post-apocalyptic, sci-fi show that takes place in a brutal Russian future. A disease has ravaged most of Moscow and it's upto a single father to rescue his estranged wife and son.

One of the most influential anime out there, Evangelion is more than just some kids cartoon. The show is a deep exploration of what makes us human along with the trauma of battling god-like beings while dealing with alienation, loneliness and depression. The show will truly test not only your appetite for excellent mech action, it will also make you think twice about what it means to really be human.

What can be said about GiTS that has not been said before? The show follows the film in that we ride along with Section 9 of the Tokyo police. Tasked with handling future crime, Section 9 is led by the charismatic Major who is one of the coolest characters in modern fiction. The show takes a more realistic approach to sci-fi and gives us a world that we actually could exist in a few years.


A retelling of the critically acclaimed film, Snowpiercer is set in a bleak future where the remnants of humanity are stuck in a never ending train with the poor occupying the tail end while the rich elite live lavishly in the front. The film takes a very ham-handed approach to social politics but it does so with some great world-building and characters.

On Children is kind of relevant for people who live in Asian countries and have to deal with parents here. The show takes place in a ‘Black Mirror’ version of Asia where people deal with very familiar problems like parental pressure, teen sucide and social alienation in an increasingly connected world.
