Instagram rolls out question and countdown stickers for live videos
HIGHLIGHTS

Instagram users will also get to use the question sticker to ask friends and followers for song recommendations.

Key Highlights:

  • Instagram users can now use question tag in live videos
  • The question tag can also be used for getting music recommendations
  • Instagram also gets an interactive countdown sticker

Instagram is adding new elements to help users interact with each other on the platform. One will now be able to use the questions sticker in their Stories to get music recommendations from their followers. While the questions sticker has been available for some time now, tailoring it for music recommendations will surely drive engagement for users and creators on the platform. The same sticker will now be available while going live on Instagram. Additionally, a new interactive countdown sticker is being introduced to Instagram Stories and as the name suggests, it will countdown to an upcoming moment, for example, the New Year, the end of the day on a Friday or virtually anything else.

Detailing the questions sticker for music, Instagram says, “You’ll see the new music icon when you use the questions sticker. When your friends respond, they can choose a song directly from the music library to share with you.” One can open the viewer’s list to go through all the responses and tap on the play button to listen to the songs. “When you share your favorites to your story, you’ll be able to capture a photo or video as the music plays in the background. You’ll also see new effects in the camera that respond to the beats and sounds of a song. To try the new effects, swipe to “Music” in the camera and you’ll see the new icons above the camera capture button.”

The introduction of questions sticker for Live Instagram videos will enable better interaction between users going live and their viewers. When someone goes live on the app using the questions sticker, one will see “Q&A” in their stories tray and they can join the live to see the questions currently being answered. However, to ask questions when a person is already live, one will need to go back to their previous story and enter their query, which will show up in the ongoing live. Those who are live will also get to share photos and videos directly from their gallery during the live. Questions in Live are now available with the latest version of Instagram on iOS and Android, and the ability to share photos and videos in Live is also available for broadcasters on iOS and viewers on both iOS and Android.

The interactive countdown sticker can be added to a story by selecting it from the sticker tray. One will need to name their countdown and add an end date or time and they can also customise the sticker’s colour. Instagram followers “can tap on your countdown to follow or share it to their own story; anyone who follows or shares your countdown will get a notification when the countdown ends.” The new sticker is also available globally on Android and iOS.
