BSNL announced a new 'Data Tsunami' offer that provides users with 1.5GB of data per day for Rs 98. The new STV-98 plan has a validity of 28 days which BSNL launched as part of 'World Telecom Day'. The offer will be valid immediately across India. “This is a pure data STV which provides data at very economic rate at Rs 2.51 per GB,” said RK Mittal, Director (CM) BSNL Board.
The plan doesn't offer unlimited voice calls like other telecom providers though. Users will only get 1.5GB data and will have to purchase talktime separately. It should be noted that BSNL doesn't have pan India 4G services yet, except for Kerala where it was made available just a few months back. As a result, the data provided will be 2G/3G depending on the region.
The government-owned telecom provider announced another recharge offer of Rs 39 earlier which offers benefits of unlimited calling. Users can make unlimited local and STD voice calls anywhere in India. Roaming on all circles excluding Delhi and Mumbai is also part of the offer. The Rs 39 plan has a validity of 10 days and also includes the telco's Personalised Ring Back Tone for free along with 100 sms per day.
There's also a STV-118 plan that offers benefits of unlimited calling and 1GB data in total valid for a period of 28 days. The new plan comes after Jio and Airtel slashing their rates to make data even more affordable. Jio offers 2GB data per day for Rs 98 which also includes unlimited voice calls valid for a period of 28 days.
