Verdict

We found this to be a really good card among its contemporaries for its cool operation. The frame rates of the GTX 560 are higher, but its not like you cannot game comfortably with the HIS card. For someone who does not want to spend on an after market cooler, this is an ideal card at the price.

HIS HD 6870 IceQX detailed review

Features: If you thought cards only came in dark colours, you have to check this one out. The HIS HD 6870 IceQX card has an aqua blue coloured shroud made of translucent plastic. The IceQX naming convention implies a cool operating card and the HIS card has around four pipes. It houses one fan in the centre and has a honeycomb like structure surrounding it which complements the outer shroud.

Design and Build: Even though the build is plastic, it does not seem like a poor build. the shroud does not bend at all. The fan located in the centre is housed atop a heatsink. The aqua blue colour of the card does make it stand out from other similarly specced cards.

Performance: The HIS HD 6870 performs at par with the ASUS HD 6870 across all gaming benchmarks. When compared with the GTX 560s, the performance is hovering around 30 FPS for both the 6870s as well as the GTX 560s but you see a jump in Dirt3 and FarCry 2 scores with the GTX 560s. But the aspect that sets this card apart is the minimum temperature delta of just 25 degrees and even at full load the HID HD 6870 never crossed the 60 degrees barrier which is commendable.

Refer to the gallery to view benchmarks, as well as the below table.

Verdict: We found this to be a really good card among its contemporaries for its cool operation. The frame rates of the GTX 560 are higher, but its not like you cannot game comfortably with the HIS card. For someone who does not want to spend on an after market cooler, this is an ideal card at the price.
